We have been seeing a lot more deer this past year and they have been coming closer to our house. In one instance a deer was almost on my deck. Mean while I have friends that travel many miles to sit in a tree stand freeze their butt off and come back empty handed.

This past weekend my g/f opened the door to let the cat out and she noticed glowing eyes staring back at her from in front of the deck. She realized it was a deer and we looked outside of the window and saw it limp to a tree that was next to our central air system. Normally they are very scared and run off if we come to the window. The next morning the deer was there, along with blood, and a compound fracture. We ended up calling animal control they came over took it out with a 22 rifle. They offered us the meat, we declined and they took it to some friends to turn into some tender doe meat. That deer had to be about a year old. The deer also smeared blood on our siding.

Just find it ironic that I have so many friends that go to extensively lengths to hunt deer and they deliver themselves on my back deck.

I hear ya. I tell my buddies to sit on the hood of my truck while I drive around. They will have better luck killing a dear from there than in a tree stand!

So, are you just telling a story, or rubbing it in????? :p I had to see a wounded deer. From the sounds of the wound it was probably an auto accident???? Yes - No??? In any case, it is sad and glad it was dispatched as quickly as possible. Can't believe you turned down that fine meat!

I am surprised it was animal control and not a Wildlife Conservation Officer. Usually the Game Commission gets a little territorial when it comes to "their" wild game.

This is the time of the year that deer herd up for the winter into areas called "deer yards"....... quite a common phenomenal thing but they gather in groups (probably talk about the stupid deer hunter's like me :p) and stick together through the wintering season.

Calling animal control was a good thing.

It is the same way here, I know more people that have taken out deer with vehicles than with a gun or bow. Thankfully the close call I once had the deer looked both ways before crossing (seriously).

I might have done something myself, but all I had was a 12 gauge and some bird shot. It is also illegal to discharge a firearm with in so many feet of another stucture or something like that.

I turned down the meat, since I have never gutted a deer and the guys that were sent by the town/animal control said they had hunter friends that would take it. Don't know if the g/f would have liked the idea of the deer hanging gutted from the garage, but then again knowing her dad, she most likely would have enjoyed helping me. After all she is from the sticks...lol I just texted her and she said, "Hrmmm probably, I use to help my dad"

We don't know if it was involved in an car accident. There was snow on the ground and we didn't see any bloody snow near the road where we live. We live on a culdisac, I wonder if the deer tried jumping over something got its leg stuck and broke it, duno.
