Soo I am have3 a dilema of sorts.

I have right now a 1972 Fish N Ski (that's all I know about the manufacturer.
Its a 14.5 tri hull my hull is in immaculate condition (other than a few transom holes from a motor swap I just recently did). Not a bit of rot on it anywhere floors are all solid and Fiberglass. Vinyl is a little torn in places but it happens with a 38 year old boat, however it is a 38 year old unknown manufactured boat. The reg paperwork says Fish N Ski the Hull Plate says Fish N Ski 65 hp 900lbs or 6 person capacity.
Everything is working and in good shape not so much as a ding in the hull. Sitting on a newer Hustler Trailer in decent shape. Has an older 65 hp Evinrude electric shift. In running condition.

I stumbled across this deal earlier my best friend for 10 years is getting rid of his old neglected boat. I had never even seen it, it was parked at his Aunt's house 5 years ago and there it sat until the old tarp fell away 4 years ago and there it sat until today, when he drug it over to my house to sell it and get it gone.

His is a 1980 Starcraft Capri 17' with a 115hp Evinrude 4 cyl 1980 original evinrude motor can't start it, but it is not locked up I am told it has a bad powerpack I have found one for $50 that I can replace it with.
Now here is the REALLY bad news. It has been sitting in the weather for 6 years and after he took 2 hrs to shovel out the accumulated pine needles I stuck broke the floor open (with one bare hand) nope I am not super man its that rotted, and found an inch of standing water in the hull. Sooo I would need to do a Floor Stringer and transom. BUT for some reason I really like this boat. $200 to buy boat motor and trlr.

So my thought is Sell my Fish and Ski I can probably get $850-$1000 out of my boat.

Buy the Starcraft and I can have $650 to go towards repairs. Have a much bigger boat and maybe something that would be worth much much more.

So what do you all think I am not afraid of the project and I can do all the work myself. Is it a doable thing? Is it worth the upgrade? I know I would be getting into a full restore and its gonna be nasty but I am not sure if its worth it or not. Soo what do you all think?

Re: Decisions Decisions

Pictures of the Starcraft would be really helpful. I NEED both of those boats,so pics would help me to help you!
[I say NEED,because I have a serious case of 2-foot-itis right now,and I'd also love to have a tri-hull!]

Re: Decisions Decisions

Boat is cheap enough, buy it anyway.... keep the tri too. Gotta have a floater while your building. Worst case you end up parting out the 115 and selling the trailor. Just finished stringers, floor and carpet on 16 ft tri, ran about 750 smackers. Full glass wrap on stringers and glassed over floor. Been cheap w o fiber lol. Garage kept, would of been alright. If i decided to sell though, wanted to do it right.

Sounds like a worthwhile fixer-upper.

...... Soo what do you all think?

THe Starcraft Capri 17' was last made in 1977.
Not after that, so it is not a 1980 model.

Makes me wonder what year the motor is.

Actually I have done a little further digging

The motor is a 1976 manual shift electric trim Evinrude 115hp 4 cyl
I believe the boat to be a 1976.
Previous information provided was based off of what the P/O had told me
