I have a 1986 17? Smoker Craft Bass Catcher with a 50hp. Mercury, I just ordered a new lower unit and was looking at the prop to see what pitch it is.

I found these numbers on the prop but I don?t know what they mean (48-73136-13)
So what do the numbers work out to be?

Thanks Jeff.

Re: Deciphering prop numbers.

The only thing you can decipher from that number is that it is a 13P prop which is very common for that engine. That number is the actual part number for the prop. In other words, if you were to order a new one, that's the number you would use. Some props have no part number or model number on them and are simply stamped with numbers such as 12-3/4 x 15. Those numbers mean the prop is 12-3/4 inches in diameter and it has 15 inches of pitch. You can measure diameter with a ruler but it takes a pitch block to determine the pitch of a propeller if it's not marked or otherwise identified.
