Fairly strong one just hit. Just for fun I am guessing 5.8 in Palm Desert . . . No science whatsoever involved.

OK, just got location as Borrego Springs, so Low Desert, but around 50 miles south of Palm Desert (Palm Springs). 150 miles from me, so going to be pretty strong one as it was strong here . . .

We would call it a roller, and the local news guys are saying the same.

That is one thing I haven't experienced yet. I've been around tornadoes, electrical storms, and a few hurricanes, but no earthquake. Don't know what I'd do if the ground started trembling! lol

You guys that haven't experienced them would be surprised at bigger ones. Last one I was outside and cars started moving back and forth in the parking lot as I was trying to get the key into the door. I thought I was passing out or something before I realized what was happening. This one I could actually see all the walls in the house moving independently of each other and the floor and ceiling. Very strange to see. Very obvious and dramatic, yet no damage. Hard to understand that you can see walls flexing and the paint doesn't crack etc.

I slept through one once. It was when I was living in Portland, Or, and there was one in Molalla, a few miles SE of Portland. On my way to work, all the radio stations were talking about earthquakes, and I figured it was in CA. Nope, mom was right, I would, and did, sleep through an earthquake...
