I've read a lot about decarbing outboards and it sounds like a good thing to do. You usually increase performace and are properly maintaing your engine by doing this every so often. However, I haven't heard too much about decarbing I/Os. I have a can of SeaFoam and was wondering if I should pour it down my carb or not. Thanks for the help.

Re: Decarb? yes or no

McKenzie,

I/O's have a completely different type of combustion that most outboards.

Outboards burn the lubricating oil along with the gasoline. This tends to "coke" up rings and build carbon deposits. Thus the need for decarb.

Four cycle engines do not do this. The lubricating oil does not enter the combustion chamber. At least it's not supposed to.

Sea Foam, seeing that it's a fuel stabilizer too, ceratinly will not hurt anything.
