This motor has been almost perfect its whole life(1 Power Pack)
After sitting last year I'm putting her up for sale soon.
She sure is smoking bad at startup.
Doesn't bother me but potential buyers may not like it
Im sure a decarb is in order. Have searched the way to do it'
Thanks I Boats.

My question is: after decarb will she still smoke bad.
If the decarb cures the smoking, will someone explain how.

Thanks

Re: Decarb question?

A de-carbon treatment cleans the firing chamber of excess carbon build-up. It gets a lot of the carbon from the exhaust and from under and around the piston rings. Carbon is a good insulator, so removal helps the engine operate at the correct temperature.

If you follow Capt. Dunkelberger's instructions in the Engine FAQ forum and do several treatments or until the smoking stops, you should be OK.

If you don't have good thermostats, the treatment won't help much. Burning a synthetic oil or synthetic blend will help with smoke and carbon.

When you finish the decarb, you should check your recirculation check valves.

Re: Decarb question?

it is normal for a 2 stroke to smoke some when 1st started. the decarb, cleans all the build up, out of the motor, which can cause more smoke. it cleans the rings pistons, etc. a decarb does not clean the carborator, it cleans the engines internals.

Decarb, take a can of seafoam put 3/4 of it in the gas tank, with only 1 gallon of premixed gas. put the rest in a spray bottle. start the engine, and let it come up to temperature. then remove plugs, and them some real good shot of seafoam into the cylinders, replace plugs, let sit 15 minutes. restart, and spray the rest of the seafoam into the carbs, so the the motor almost stalls, wait and repeat until the seafoam is gone.then take for a wide open spin. then put in new plugs, ad premixed gas to the tank, and take it for a wide open throttle spin. it is going to smoke like a house on fire, during this process.

always new plugs after the decarb, it is hard on plugs.

Re: Decarb question?

OK Men,
Just got back from the De-carb run.

This engine has been smoking (blue) badly for a couple of weeks now.
Used 3/4 of the sea foam in a 1 gal jug -o-gas.

Ecspected to see alot of BLACK smoke...never happened.
Pored some in the spark plug holes and waited 15 min.
Still didn,t Black smoke at all, althoug it did go from blue to white-ish.
Does this sound right?
Also went for some WOT river runs.
Anyway when I was reloading on the trailer. She stopped smoking.

I have added 1 gal new john/rude 30 to the tank
Do you think all the smoking could have been the old oil?
Always used Factory oil, just been sitting in a friends barrel for a few years.

When I got home, I ran her on the hose and shes smoking a very little bit.
I think shes right now.

Agree or Not??????

All coments welcome.

Thanks
W K
