I am trying to figure out how much dealing there is when buying a new boat. THe boat I am currently dealing on was at a boat show, and they said there is no dealing on the price, becouse it was already marked down for the boat show.... so should I try to deal more????? Is there anyway to figure out how much they are buying the boat for from the manufacture??? Should I look to see the invoice or somthing???? How about ****ering on my trade in??

I have bought several new cars over the years, and I always asked to see the invoice on the boat and then gave them a 4% profit margin.....

Thanks for any input Doug

On new cars, there is always dealer incentives and one thing or another besides the invoice, and what it says on the invoice is not necessarily what the dealer actually pays for the car. That is why some dealers at some point will advertise cars at $100 off dealer invoice.

Everything is negotiable. Period. You can do it any way you wish, but the crucial number is the difference you pay between your trade-in and what it takes to put the boat in your driveway. Always keep that in mind.

Make them an offer. Be prepared to walk away. See what happens. I have no idea if their boat show price is the best they can do or not, but there is only one way to find out.

With the boat market in the dumps like it is, I would think there would be a lot of room for negotiation. My suggestion would be to look at similar boats at other dealers and get comparative values and prices. You can then decide if the original boat is the best value for you. Who knows, the dealer may even match a lower price to get the business. Don't rush it and be prepared to walk out. The dealer has your phone number if he decides to come around.

That is good advice.. I think I just need to slow the process down a bit.... I found a used boat that is looking good as well, so I will check that boat out as well... thanks DOug

Until you make an offer to buy...price is somewhat irrelevant...hell, the Dealer only knows your serious once you've made an offer. Till then, your just kicking tires; in his mind! If you like the boat and you've looked around, make him an offer of 10% less than the boat show price (give him a dollar value)...be prepared to walk and do. Make sure he's got you phone number...it'll be ringing when you get home. You have now demostrated that you will buy the boat at some price... he now knows you serious. Now the fun starts! :p Keep us posted! ;)

That is great advise,... I need to slow it down a bit.... I found the same boat about a year old for a few grand less that I am going to look at as well.

I called the other campion dealer in the area to see what he can do for me as well, and have his info. So I feel that I have 3 options now to go in with on saturday... thanks again for the advice... Doug

I bought my Boat for $5,000 less than List. They were asking $26,500 I picked it up for $21,000. It's winter and BOATS don't sell much in the winter. Don't ever Buy a Boat at a Boat Show ! Thats when it will be the HIGHEST Price. If it's your First Boat, Buy a used one.Boats DROP 50% in Vaule in TWO years. Buy a Boat two years old. If you LOVE it then you might think about buying a new one. LOOK around the Marina, There's alot of Boats that were used one season and have a For Sale Sign on them. The two Happest days in your life is the day you buy your Boat & when you sell it.
