Re: Deal or no Deal?

Geography is always a significant factor, so I can only respond within that context. In my neck of the woods the seller would be extremely fortunate to get that much. It's a short boat, twenty years old, boat and motor are both unpopular brands (won't get into whether that reputation is justified because that's irrelevant with respect to resale value. It's all about perception), and scissor trailers are often considered undesirable (again, won't get into whether they should be). The seller is trying to recoup some or all of the money spent on restoration efforts. In most cases it doesn't work that way. Bad deal.

Re: Deal or no Deal?

Probably not but close..... 20 years old with a scissor trailer got my attention. Hope you don't have to trailer far with the trailer. If the upholstery looks good and the motor is given the ok by a marine mechanic, then I think you are in the ball park. I would not purchase it without an inspection by a marine mechanic. IMHO, I'd start about 3500 and work up to maybe 4500 max.

Good luck and report back your decision. Welcome to the forum..

Re: Deal or no Deal?

I found same brand & model at another dealer one year older 24ft 75hp instead of 20ft 70hp & no trailer & they want $8000. I live at the lake with hundreds of lakes within 50 mile radius. Plus with the scissor trailer I can also pull my brothers boat off the lake in the fall. I have seen older ones with torn seats for more $. Up here prices I guess are higher. Pickins are getting slimmer & prices seem to be going up with spring getting closer, so I am going with the 20ft Spectrum.

Seems to be the going rate for the North. The scissor trailer and the Force motor are not desirable. Check the floor for soft spots and the base of the furniture for rot. Ensure the toons are leak free and in decent shape. $5k max.

On a model of that vintage, much of the money is in the motor. A rebuilt force is not worth much. I would look for something else if I were you. The powerhead failed for a reason and in my view buying a reuilt is risky. Myself I would rather buy a mechanically sound package that may need some furniture repair than one with a questionable motor. You can also use folding chairs on the deck..

Look at the cost of a new boat as well for comparison, then look at used boats five years out.

Seems like a lot of money, you should have a lot of choices if you have a lot of lakes nearby.

Re: Deal or no Deal?

See I look at it like this: All these prices are the going rate around my location.

Trailer if in good shape: $1300
All new upholstery: $2400
Force 70hp outboard: $900
New Steering: $250
TOTAL $4850

And that's not including the actual boat itself. This is assuming the logs are in good shape with no dents and healthy looking crossmembers. Where I'm from it sounds to me that IF! the upholstery is all new on the boat meaning every seat and the trailer is a somewhat new trailer then yes where i'm from that would be worth it.
