Re: dead short

At the large harness connector at the engine check the terminals for corrosion and tightness. I f the connector is loose on losing connection it will cause this type of problem.

Re: dead short

When you say it won't start again, does the starter crank at all? Do you get a real small click when you turn the key or absolutely nothing?

I agree with Reel Poor... I had a friend with the exact same symptoms. The main / large harness or plug was all crudded up. Cleaned it up and was good to go.

Also check the wire terminals and connections on the red circut breakers (engine mounted).

Just for future reference. You have an "OPEN" not a dead short.

Re: dead short

This happened to me at one time too, and oddly enough it turned out to be the neutral switch in the throttle control. Apperantly there was some very old grease in there that picked up some dirt over the years, and after cleaning the whole mechanism up and reaplying some fresh lubricant, everything was fine.

What I surmissed was happening in my case was that after shutting down and placing in neutral it took a while for the dirty grease to release the switch to its "neutral" position.

Just something to check.

Re: dead short

Haha, picked up some motorcyles over the winter, but after taking the old Cobalt out for Seafair I am suckered back into the boat. Its running great, but I am getting water intrusion into the upper because of worn seals on the main bearing. The nut is "welded" on there so I can't get it off to replace the seals.

I have a line on an excact match upper that I can get to and replace seals, so in the meantime I am just being careful and changing gear oil every outing!
