The older 'Rude I have has no dead man's switch. I'd like to have one but don't know where to start. Has anyone here ever installed one? Aftermatket or OEM? 1962 Evinrude 10hp Sport twin.

Thanks

Re: Dead man's switch

You can do it but it will take a bit of work and fabrication.

The "kill switches" are made for CD igntions where one wire is grounded to shut off the motor. Your points igntion will have to have wires from each set of igntion points connected to both wires of a "kill switch", such as one from a later model Johnson or Evinrude. Now when the lanyard is pulled, the switch closes and shorts together both ignition points and the motor stops.

I've used a few of the Seadog universal switches and they fit the same hole, plus or minus a washer or two, as the push button kill switches. They seem to work well so far. Three years and counting on my first one. Best of luck. Rick.

Not trying to hijack this thread but this looks like a winner for my 76' Evinrude 55hp with "Magneto C.D. igniton"......does not use points. Is there a chart someone can direct me to to wire something like this or a recommended wiring point?
