Dead battery did I kill it?

When I brought the boat back to the storage place last week I forgot and left the battery switch on 2 and killed that battery, when I went back this weekend to put the cover on I noticed it and changed it to off. My question is that by draining the battery did I destroy the battery (will it not hold power the same)? I don't have any way of charging it up besides running the boat which I can't get to until next weekend.

You need to charge it as soon as possible. Was it a deep cycle battery? They can take a complete drain better than a starting battery.

I would pull the battery and put on a charger first before using, then maybe have it checked at a parts store, I have run battery's dead and they worked ok, hope that helps.

If you have no way of charging it, buy a set of jumper cables and connect them to the tow vehicle battery. Run the tow vehicle to charge it. This does not happen in 1/2 hour. You need to buy a battery charger so you can do this at home if needed.

I am going to go down to the boat sotrage place on Friday and grab the battery out of the boat, put it in the charger at home and then take it to a parts store to get checked. Since I have two group 24 batteries I think I will wire both of these in to bank 1 and buy two group 29 and wire them in to bank 2. I have been wanting to do this since I bought the boat. Bank 1 I only use in emergencys to start the boat usailly after sitting at anchor on bank 2 for the night and wake up with bank 2 dead.

My advice is that if a smart charger doesn't work try a manual one before buying a new battery.

2 Weeks ago I left my truck lights on and only discovered the dead battery 2 days later. It was so dead the automatic charger would not even try to charge it. I happen to have an old Sears auto / manual one so I put it on manual and forced the charge for about 5 minutes after which it did find enough juice for the auto mode to work. It seems fine every since.

One time my BMW sat at the airport for two weeks with a dead battery (stuck relay) and it was fine once I got her started. I guess my dead battery should be fine. Ill post back. I think my battery charger has an indicator for bad batterys.
