Daylight savings yuck

When I initially retired from the Army I stopped worrying about time.

Now that I am working "part time" I guess the annoying thing is driving to work in the dark and driving home at night in the dark. What worsens it is that I work indoors during the daylight.

I guess a simple hour time change will not kill us and it is somewhat easier then keeping my watch on Zulu time (My fellow warriors will remember that :D)

The switch really messes with my internal clock. It takes me a week or so to get used to. Thank you for your service!

I hate the change too. It's amazing what getting dark 1hr earlier does for the psyche. It's 5:30 and pitch black. In another month it will be dark around 4:30... Changing the clocks back can't come soon enough......

Mainly DST ends now so the Children won't be waiting in the dark for school buses or walking in the dark to school. So we go back to Standard time:

The History of Daylight Saving Time

"The US Congress extended DST to a period of ten months in 1974 and eight months in 1975, in hopes to save energy following the 1973 oil embargo. The trial period showed that DST saved the equivalent in energy of 10,000 barrels of oil each day, but DST still proved to be controversial. Many complained that the dark winter mornings endangered the lives of children going to school. After the energy crisis was over in 1976, the US changed their DST schedule again to begin on the last Sunday in April. DST was amended again to begin on the first Sunday in April in 1987. Further changes were made after the introduction of the Energy Policy Act of 2005."

Bob, I'm with you on that. I remember years ago when I was working a seven-day schedule, I would go for up to six weeks at a time without ever seeing my house in the daylight...! What a drag!

I am kinda ambivalent about the switching back and forth. You need the Daylight Savings time in the Summer for getting things done outside. I don't like the cold, so I don't go outside near as much in the winter, so the switch back to Standard time doesn't both me too much. I could see where it would really bother people in areas where it is dark at 4 or 4:30 pm though. I have been to areas out west and it was shocking to see it pitch black at 4 pm

Just another reason to be a snowbird. South Florida has almost an extra hour of sunlight right now over northern Ohio.. In the summertime we get the +.

Some don't do the time change at all:
Most of Arizona Exempt from Daylight Saving Time

Indiana ???? Use to be a county to county thing, don't know anymore.

I'm not a morning person, so........................ At least if it's dark in the morning you know daylight is right round the corner. When it gets dark at nite, that's it................. Maybe some year in my lifetime, doubt it, they wont make the switch...... They'll stick with DST.....

It is a lot easier to start the day/project in the light than in the dark.

But that really doesn't count around the middle of December when we only get light between 8am and 3.30pm.

It messes with my internal clock so the wife had an idea of keeping the same internal clock and using the extra hour in the morning to go run 3 miles every day. You have any idea how cold it was this morning.

One consequence of the DST change is the need to get my dog a watch. He's gotta learn to adjust and stop with the cold wet nose in my ear at 0430hrs. Wait for the alarm or let yourself out quietly!!!!

The only good thing about "falling back" one hour is the thoughts of "Springing forward" again and getting the boat out of the barn !!!

Same issue with mine except she doesn't show up until 0700 or so.

When told of the reason for Daylight Savings Time, the old Native American said, "Only a Government would believe you could cut a foot off the top of a blanket, sew it on the bottom, and have a longer blanket."
