I'm looking in to a Dauntless 220 for fishing in salt and fresh water. I'm just looking to see what other people think and have to say about the boat.

Re: Dauntless 220

You'll never regret owning a Whaler. I have a 1996, 24' Outrage with twin 175 HP Evinrude Ocean Pros. First rate. There are other great boats too. I just haven't found one yet that I'd prefer to have in this size range. Think resale when you go to move up. ;)

Can't go wrong with Whaler. If you keep it nice, resale will be excellent.

I've restored two. Workamanship, hardware are all first rate.

Re: Dauntless 220

Howdy, JHill.

I've had 5 Whalers, all absolutely first-rate boats. My Son and one of my Sons in law have Whalers. I currently have 2.

I have to admit that I like the classic (Dougherty-designed) Whalers better than the newer series, I find no reduction in those qualities that make a Whaler a very special boat.

Frankly, though in that size range I would prefer a late '80s Outrage or Revenge, The Dauntless have more creature comforts and could not have suffered poor maintenence or hidden injury.

Good luck and Happy Whalering! :)
