Daughter backed into prop with pickup...

My daughter called me this morning and said that she "might have hit the boat"...well she did and it bent the outer flange on the rear of the prop. So now she gets to buy a new one. I need some help on getting a replacement. The one that was on it seemed to work just fine, so another just like it will work if possible. The boat is a 1986 Glastron, with an alpha one stern drive, 175 hp motor. The numbers on the side of the prop were stamped in as follows: 48 832832A45 21P
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Quick Tip

The guys here love to help those that will at least take a stab at helping themselves. Start by doing an internet search for the part number you gave us. You'll be surprised by what comes up. Do a bit of homework about propellers in general. If you still have questions... ...we love to help!!

It's a 21p. Pitch.
If yours isn't to bad it can be fixed.

OR

Get an aluminum replacement. Very common prop, easy to find.

I would look for the posibility to repair your prop, aluminium props are pretty easy to repair, and repair will cost far less then replacement. However make sure you go to a decent repair-shop, show them the damaged prop and make an agreement on the price before they rip you off.

Thanks for all the input...can I reuse the hub kit or should I just plan on getting a new one with the prop? I checked around here and not too many people want to try repairing it, so it looks like I am stuck with trying to find a replacement one.

Being a Kansas boy myself, if you haven't found a place yet to get your prop repaired, there is a place in Olathe, Kansas called Midwest Propeller that does an excellant job, repairing/selling props. Have used them before, and would suggest that you try them.

I don't have their information, as our DELL from HELL crashed, and it isn't back yet.

BUT, I believe that you can google them.

(I hope this isn't considered trying to solicite, on this site).

Just trying to help

Re: Daughter backed into prop with pickup...

if its an alum.the repair shops you dealt with thus far may believe its not worth the price, and you probably can buy a used onec cheaper on ebay for price of repair.if you have a stainless prop, you likely will need a rehub, the heat used for repair will soften the rubber making it useless.if you dont have a ss prop,I suggest you invest in one, used is a good place .ss props give much better performance on boats like you have, some marinas will loan A prop so you can get the right size ,often an alum prop flexes under load,so you might be over proped if you stay with a ss 21 pitxch, thats a maybe ,but you dont want to spend the money to then need have it re pitched, there are many performance props out there like cleaver, mirage, some with cupped blades and your boat may perform much better with right prop.look into trying some if you can.i think you will be glad you put the effort in

Ummm be nice to your daughter and you will get all the help you need....now say i will not make her pay....;) I take it your boat has a 3.7 liter motor?? By the way have a prop repaired involves labor and good labor might very well cost you as much as a new one.....Kinda like patching hole's in underware...
