Damaged Bellows Boot?

So I was looking over the new to me 1987 Reinell after a trip to the lake. I thought It took on quite a bit of water for a 5 hr trip, about 5 gallons. The hull looks great, but I noticed the brass piece where the plug goes in to be loose. I tightened the screws and sealed it. While under there I noticed this piece of rubber that is cracked very bad. Research looks to be a bellows boot.Am I taking in water from it?What info do I need to find the correct boot to replace? The outdrive looks newer than the boat, and I was told it was replaced. It is a COBRA outdrive. Thanks FFF

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,.... That's the exhaust bellows, it's wet on both sides anyways,.....

The drive bellows is the big one, above that one,.....

If it's nearly that bad, Ya, replace 'em with New,....

Thanks for the quick reply. Is is still safe to use the boat?? I have a trip planned next week and if it can wait Id rather do it when I get back if it wont effect performance or safety.

If the upper one has any cracks you must replace it or else risk damage to the U joints and gimble bearing. That bottom one must be VERY old because they have come with slits in the bottom to reduce back pressure for many years. Looks like it came with the boat.

Upper hose looks new. It is seated well from what can see, but I will check clamp tightness tomorrow . I am new to I/o motors and figured that's were I was taking in water at the broken hose . Hopefully it was coming in at the loose plug area and now that's sealed so we will see this weekend on trial run
