Hi all,

I will be relocating soon to one of the two aforementioned areas. Being from Cincinnati, I know next to nothing about the southwest and am wondering where the hot spots are to go boating. Proximity to entertainment/night life/bars is a big plus, I'm still young and dumb!

Just from Google Maps I can see there are tons of lakes around, but recommendations on where to go, where to avoid, where to meet people, etc. etc. are much appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT: Anything within 1-1.5hrs of either metro area is best. I plan on getting on the water every weekend possible and I don't want to spend half my weekends driving.

Kinda surprised there hasn't been more Zonies in here but I will tell you what I know about Arizona, within 1.5 hours of Phoenix the lakes are

Roosevelt-Biggest of the bunch 22,000 acres
Apache
Canyon
Saguaro
Pleasant

If you go make sure you go to the Salt river for tubing

I grew up at Apache and Roosevelt, Roosevelt is a big open lake while Apache is very different, a deep canyon lake. This is the desert so theres not many trees like Ohio, daytime high's in the summer are over 100 night time lows are in the 80's there is nearly ZERO humidity so 80's at night is gorgeous but the daytime heat takes some getting used to. The boating season is about the same as the rest of the nation as Arizonans get spoiled with warm water and when the water temp gets into the 60's its too cold(I know right!).

Night life in Phoenix is similar as in most bigger cities other then the outdoor parties are the norm. Mill avenue in Tempe was the place to be 20 years ago when I lived there not sure whats hot now.

I love Arizona, born and raised there and will probably retire there someday.

I have been to both cities...Phoenix is way cool..I went to Sedona only 1.5 hours and then to Flagstaff..left 80 degrees in town and drove 2 hours to flagstaff and 3 foot of snow..was way cool. San Antonio is way better than Dallas..as far a Texas goes
