Hi, I have this really old pair of **** Pope cypress garden ski's.
I cut like 8" off the rear and moved the bindings forward, I forget the exact distance but I did the math and maintained the same distance ratio.
My 14yr old daughter said they seemed too long so that's why I cut them, they are now exactly 59" long does that sound about right for a beginning junior? She has gotten up and skied with the modified version but now I'm wondering if I can still use them, I weigh 155#. It's been quite a few years but it should be like riding a bike but wondering what the shorter length will do to me?

I weigh 185 and can get up on 49" kiddie combos, hell - my wake skis are only about 40". Combo skiis are awfully cheap, not sure why you would cut up a pair of classic skiis - but to each their own.

If you have skied before you should have no problem getting up, you'll need more boat speed and they are not going to feel as stable.

If it were me, I'd go to sports authority or one of the other discount sports stores and pick up a couple sets of modern combo skis, one for the kids and one for you. They are super cheap this time of year and will last forever.

I found these ski's in the trash after a local swap meet, guess they didn't want to haul the stuff back home, so yea cutting them up didn't break my heart. Thanks for sharing your experience I guess I can't blame the ski's if I don't get on plane.

Combos give tons of lift, and you can get up no problem on anything longer than 50". Just lay back and you'll pop up like a cork. Hell, I'm 160 and my slalom is 65", and not too difficult to get up on.

Sounds like you had a set of 67" combo skis, which is the normal length even on pairs today. I suppose it's find, but seems like a lot of work when you could have just bought some youth skis off of craigslist for cheap. Guess it didn't cost you anything other than your time though.

Shorter length will be ok if you're a good skier. Remember, like everything else, they were designed the way they were for a reason.
