Hello -
My boat was worked on and i noticed the speedometer was no loner working, after investigating the connection is severed.
Do you think something like this would work to patch it up so i dont have to run a new cable?
open to any other suggestions

the only problem is the pitot tube gets brittle over the years. if it broke in one place, it will soon break again. a new tube is under $20

I had a brand new boat that had a quality speedo. Worked great, but over the years the pitot tube would't hold position and the hose cracked. I replaced both and it worked like new. The readings compared to GPS were within +- 1 mph. Of course, the lowest gauge reading was about 7 mph, so it was no good for no-wake zones.

My classic Lyman has a set from about 1952. I had to replace the crystal on the dash unit and blow out the pitot tube, but with a new hose it works quite satisfactorily as well.

Thanks all, the tube is actually new - i think it got severed when they took the engine out - or...something. haha

i dont need accurate mph, but i'd like the gauge to work, espeically if i sell it in the next few years. thanks!

That should work.

When changing my impeller the other year, I accidentally cut the tube as I slid the lower unit back into place. I didn't have a spare on me so I figured that I would do it later. It's now been two years and I haven't missed it. I go by rpms and the sound of the motor.

That WON'T work. The OP said he wants the gauge to work, regardless of accuracy. Not rpms that go to another gauge. Maybe it could be spliced back together with a right sized larger tube, but there better be s good sealant to attach the rubbers or it will leak and be worthless.

Just like everything else. DIRTFT or be satisfied with a crappy repair.
