cut out template

Aloha
i have a 1985-86 omc cobra i need a template to cut the hole for my outdrive
i am having trouble finding it ,i was told it is the same template as a volvo sx
drive,but i need to be sure before i cut my newly built transom.

also any info on the process of finding where the leg should be from the bottom of boat would be appreciated!

Post a picture of your drive. Cobra's didn't exist in 85

i wasn,t sure if it was 86 but you solved that for me.
so 86 cobra with 4.3 gm

I would stongly suggest you order one from your local Volvo dealer. They aren't expensive, but almost impossible to do without.

thank you for the info,but can you vefiy that the sx template will in fact work for my cobra,i called coastal marine and the guy said the sx came out in 94
and he wasn't sure if it used the same template as the cobra 86

Use the template and cut out the opening from a scrap piece of plywood and then see if it fits.

Yeah....it's the same. It'll also work for a Mercruiser.

aloha ! i got the template and did the measurments based on a 15 degree
transom angle,14 3/32 " from boat bottom,this will put the av plate level with boat bottom,but the template says optimum is 3/4 in above bottom?
if i raise it 3/4 in it would work out perfect because my drain hole would clear the shield ,but i was wondering if the 3/4 in would cause ventillating
