Aluminum Prop

Cant tell the pitch stamp as the prop looks to have been repainted years ago.

the RPM guge is off so I cant tel the proper RPM's At WOT the RPM's reed about 7500. I know it isnt going that high as I have run many outoards and this one doesnt sound like it is over doing it. The Tach starts off at about 2000 so I just deduct 2000 from my number and would say it runs right at 5500 at 42 mph WOT.

My question is what effect does a dinged up prop have. Loss of speed, power?

I have been told by people who are not experts that my boat should get to 50 mph easy with one rider 180 lbs. I have checked my speed with a GPS and it is 43. I am thinking of changing to a new prop because this one has worn over the years. It looks like the original that came with it.

Also I know nothing about Jack Plates or how they work. I have thought about lowering the motor because it comes out of the water if I do a small turn at 3/4 throttle. Any thoughts?

Re: Curious.

Judging by the weight I think 50 might be a little optimistic unless the bottom is fast.
You may find some prop info under the prop nut. There may be a knob/switch on the back of the tach.Note the setting and rotate it a few times to clean the contacts see if it changes the results.A prop shop can measure the prop for you and repair it.
After prop is fixed up get us some new base numbers and the prop size. The prop may hold better in turns and get you a little speed. If it still won't grip we can suggest a prop that will help. and you can save the old one for a spare.

Re: Curious.

Thanks. I dont know a local prop shop around here. I will see what I can do to get it repaired.

Just to be honest I would much rather spend the money on a new one rather than pay to have the old one repaired. Is this dumb?

I understand about the Tach and needing the correct reading. It may be a while before I can get back out on the water. Moving to a new place. As soon as I have all the info I will let you know.....

Wouldn't hurt to get an estimate. And compare to a new replacement. You should be able to find a shop and take it to them to find the size and replace with the same.We just can't be sure it was exactly right in the first place.
