Curious Queston - Alpha 1 Gen 2

Friend of mine and I were comparing notes on our boats. He has a 96 Alpha 1 Gen 2 with a 4.3 Mercruiser and I have a 93 Alpha 1 Gen 2 with the 3.0 Merc. He mentioned having a lower unit oil resevoir in his engine compartment. I never noticed one in mine and don't believe I have one. Is that something they added after my model year?<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />Jeff

I believe the Gen II came out in 1992 and the early models did not have the resevoir til around 1994. I have a Gen II without it too

I think there is a kit to add the resevoir to any mercruiser

The Gen II came out in 91. The early models had a dipstick in the top cap and now gear lube reservoir.<br />When the reservoir was added, the dipstick was removed.
