I just found out why my motor was overheating. Re pulled the lower unit, and instantly noticed the rubber grommet on top of the impeller housing was missing, found it shoved inside the impeller housing, the same way i found it when i bought the boat. Was very careful when bolting up the lu to be sure the grommet fit over the water tube nicely. Any ideas on why this grommet is getting sucked into the impeller housing? Never seen this b4.

Anyone see any problems with gluing the grommet to the impeller housing with gasket sealing compound to hold it there?

Yeah when i got it I changed the water pump /impeller immediately. Noticed that the grommet was stuffed in the impeller housing then too. I just fixed it though. I may have put the grommet in upside down in a hurry. Never really noticed how one end is of a larger wall size than the other. The larger meant to sit in the impeller housing to prevent it from doing exactly what it did (slide in), the smaller to taper over the water pipe. It was a tricky thing to line up by myself, raising the lu and tryin to line up that water line without shifting its position. Done others but havent had trouble like this one, had to bring it back down at adjust about 4 times. Finally put some gasket sealing compound around the edge and let it sit for an hour, then oiled the water line a bit to allow the grommet to slide on it with ease, and she slid up. Now i can start on my case of beer :)
