I have a 1971 evinrude 7.5hp,long shafted outboard motor, model number E8BALCIC I need to know its cubic capacity in metric if you have it.How many cc's is it or cubic inches?

Re: cubic capacity for outboard

There is no conversion. The cc's are simply the size of the internal engine. An engine with a given CC of size can have numerous HP outputs depending on the carburetor size, number of cylinders, the compression ratio, RPM, exhaust , 2 stroke vs 4 stroke and I am sure a few other factors.

The 7.5 was built from 1950 - 58 and again in 1980 - 83. Where was yours built? If it was built outside the US, then it should be set to CC displacement, rather than CID.

Did you mean 1981. That was the first production year of that motor with that model number. Trying searching for the manual with 1981 as the model year. Your answer should be in the manual. I don't know off hand, I don't have any experience with that motor. What I usually do when I go on the hunt for motor info is hit http://www.crowleymarine.com and use their catalog for getting "close enough" information. Hope that helps you..

I've got an OMC service manual and tried your formula and it doesn't seem to work out. What did I miss ??

Volume=pi X (Bore/2) squared X Stroke X # cylinders.

Metric and English are the same formula.

Re: cubic capacity for outboard

I apologize to the board, I was all wet.
You'll need the area of the bore, which is "pi" x radius squared. Take this times the stroke will give you the area of effective cylinder. Take this times the number of cylinders and it gives you the cubic inches of the motor.
1 cubic inch = 16.39 cubic centemeters, so if you have a 50 ci motor, then it's a 820 cc motor, more or less.

I dug out my book for my 60hp Evinrude, and the bore is 3.00" and the stroke is 2.344" (luv those short strokes).
If the bore is 3", then the radius is 1/2 that. So, 1.5" squared = 2.25 x 3.1416 (pi) = 7.069 ci.
7.069 x 2.344 (stroke) = 16.57 ci x 3 (cylinders) = 49.71 ci
49.71 ci x 16.39 (cc per ci) = 816 cc.

Hope my math is right, and again, I apologize for the misleading formulas I posted before.

Thank you boobie, for pointing this out.

164 cc, or 10 c.i. (1980-83 7.5 horse).

Now that we have confirmation on the 164cc, how 'bout some of that pi. I'll have a small piece, 3.1459265 bites worth.

S y M, sorry for jacking with your post.

Your motor is a 1981 not a '71. It is 10 cu. in. or 164cc

Evinrude lists the cubic inch and cc in both the owners manual and in the service manual, along with the sales literature.

Re: cubic capacity for outboard

Conversion from CC to cid is simple. There are 61 cubic inches/liter. One liter is 1000 cc's.
