Me and my friend Mark met at my house and pulled out at 5:00, headed down 44 towards the water, put in at FIT and hit the river about 6:50. It was still pretty dark but by the time we idled to the get up on plane part it was light enough to see. The moon was absolutely beautiful as it was setting in front of us, and the sun was rising behind us. We were greeted by some wind, but not bad. There was a little chop on the flats in the early morning, but by about 8:30 it started ripping from land out into open water. It actually helped cast further and I think I finally figured out how to avoid the wind knots in the power pro now. We were drifting with the sock as it was definitely needed to slow us down. The bite started slow till the sun came out. We caught about 50 sea bass, which we kept a few. The trout did not seem to turn on till about 9ish. We had our trout limit around 12, which made for a good morning. I FINALLY caught a spanish mackerel, actually I caught two of them on gulp shrimp under a popping cork. We caught a few blues, kept one for the smoker. One grouper about 10" was caught and I asked him to return when he got bigger. We made about 10 drift passes all day, and caught about 100 fish. I caught two fish, which im not sure what they are. I believe they are jacks. One had blue fins, and the other had yellow fins, and grunted at me.
I took the mackerel and filleted and cut the bloodline out, then dipped in mustard and rolled em in cracker meal and parm. cheese. It was not bad. I did make some tartar sauce to help with the flavor.
