Hi, my port engine keeps dumping her oil during running; not all at once but sporadically until its empty. It's very cramped and hard to get to but last night I wiggled my way down under to see what's going on. It looks like it's not the pan nor gasket, but leaking from a hose or some unit attached to the engine. Here's a picture looking fore to aft, down the port side of the port engine. Can anyone tell me what these hoses are hooked to and what unit this is on the engine? I suspect it's the oil pump but am not sure. Thanks, Tom.

Those hoses are for the remote oil filter, and you might be ready for new ones, or maybe the o-ring that seals that adapter to the block. (the part the hoses connect to) Pretty common leak spot.

Thanks for the answer ZB. Just to be sure I understand, the hoses you mention are the flex hoses, not the hard ones that connect to the bottom of the oil pan, right? Thx Tom.

yes, but that hard line to the oil pan bottom is also in dire need of replacement.

Re: Crusader '96 350XL oil leaking

Thanks Rodbolt and ZBnutcase, we're very relieved that the engine won't need to be pulled and/or reman'd. My mechanic said it's a miracle that the engine didn't seize after having run the engine twice down to no oil in two weeks; it's fine, then when up on plane all the oil drops in less than 30 seconds with no alarm. Yesterday I just refilled the oil, waited an hour, and cranked her a little bit at a time for the oil to make its way off the pan; then she ran great, but I'm not using it again until the mechanic fixes it. Thx again.

Ok, long term update: needed to replace the port engine with reman. Hardest part was working through the salon, having to remove back window to get it out, and replaced.
