First post- We are looking to purchase a boat with a 220 hp Crusader engine. Owner states the engine was installed new in 2004 by previous owner, I think it is a rebuild. The model number is 54113. How would I find out about how old this engine is? I emailed Crusader but no reply. Thanks in advance

If you have any doubt walk away. You cant tell by looking at it if its a rebuild, nor just because the owner says that the guy before him put in a new motor. Get receipts or go through that engine with a fine tooth comb. A compression check is a good start on telling you the health of that engine...

Re: crusader 220 hp

Thanks for the help and advice. After a couple of calls , I was led to an engine guy in Maryland. He looked up the model #. The Crusader was produced in 1985. I guess it was rebuilt( looks very clean with 110 hrs. on it) when it replaced the Graymarine in 2004. Owner also has a HackerCraft, hense the low hours. Also out of water last two summers. Thanks again
