Everyone. I had been active on the Johnson Outboard forum. I was fearless. Rebuild the lower unit? Easy. Diagnose problems? Easy.

So god, with his sense of humor, compelled me to buy an older Silverton 34' with two each of the 270hp Crusader engines.

The vessel has been surveyed with a mint bill of health. I do know the original owner. He maintained the engines meticulously. The gentleman did not push the limits of the engines.

Specs: These are 270HP, 350CID engines, 1980 vintage, carburated. They are pushing a V-drive inboard drive line. These are fresh water cooled

These engines have about 1030 hours on each. Regardless of how much care, I know engines have a finite life.

What can you expect, in terms of life before a major rebuild or repower? At how many hours would even a well maintained engine need major overhaul?

..So I can begin saving.. :)

Thank you in advance!
