I have a 2000 Crownline 202 with a factory Hummingbird depth finder. I have looked at the owner's manual (Just bought the boat in November) and it does not list my problem.

Whether in the driveway running with muffs to check things out or our first outing last Wed on a local lake, the depth shows at 13-14 feet. The sensor is built in the transom.

Is this a problem anyone has dealt with in the past? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

umm, i once heard if the transducer is inside the boat glud to the floor you needed to have about an inch of water in the hull for it to be accurate. just what i read on a manual once maybe its throwing false signals

Is it still in Demo mode?

I don't think it is in demo mode. It cycles through the options.

sw33ttooth, could it be some kind of film or debris on the transducer?

If my memory is correct, Crownline switched to Lowrance depth finders sometime after 2000 and before 2003 as they had a rash of problems with the depth finders. I want to say it was related to the transducer. Transducer is epoxied/glued in the hull, starboard side inside the engine compartment. The entire rear bench seat tips forward to allow better access around/to the engine compartment.

@ burp, is it possible for a newbie to change it out?
I changed out some gauges but dealing with the hull is pretty scary. What would be involved to put in a new unit? Are there other brands of depth finders that have transducers that mount differently? We are going to some lakes I have never been on before and I really want this thing working! Thanks in advance to everyone for your reply

i dont think there would be a way to get the old one off but if you bought a new one you could run it out the back end or epoxy to the floor next to the old one depending on what type you choose to buy thinking the inhull transducer is more costly then they one that screws in the transome and sticks out. either way i dont blame you on inland lakes you never know the depth and some lakes it becames really important to watch it every second.

I was thinking about a fish finder that would also do depth and temp. Any thoughts on a unit that could handle this without breaking the bank?

hi guys,
I know I learned the hard way, just thought I would mention it.
You can not reley on your depth finder to keep you out of trouble. Unless you go around the waterway at 2mph. Charts or local info is a must. Many lakes have umarked hazards. At 20mph your prop blades or hull has been damaged before you can react!

There are several out there that do both depth and temp, actually I think most now have temp as an optional add on. I have no way of knowing how big your bank is so you have to research that on your own. I picked up a cheap Hbird last season with both features for $149.99 optional temp sensor cost me $28

Sixmark, can you give me the model number so I have an idea? Where does the sensor mount? Thanks!
