Re: Cross Reference Plugs

I wouldn't use Bosch Platinum, too much negative about them. I just had a post re Pontiac Sunbird no start issue. Had a perfectly good looking set of BP's in it. Changed to standard AC Delco and problem was solved.

I don't think you can go wrong with the right NGK, but I'd just stick with Autolite Copper Core #24.

No direct links allowed....
dwnld the 2 Mb excel matrix

I run the BPR6EFS in my 3.0L Merc, which crosses with the AC-MR43LTS which has a reach of 0.708".
The autolite #24's, and other plugs that I would think fit the standard Ford 302 head unless you have hi-volume heads, usually have a reach of 0.460". Or I might be thinking of chevy. But doublecheck to make sure you're running the correct length plug. Measure with a caliper if possible.

Boomyal- there are some cross references on spark plugs, depending on how intelligent the parts counter guy is, where the reach is not the exact same. Sometimes a cross-ref can go to a slightly shorther plug, like from 0.460" to 0.375", in which case would definitely cause issues.

Stay away from Split Fire's... Snake oil. No better than standard plugs out there but cost a lot more.

Re: Cross Reference Plugs

The guys at the local marina told me that the A/C's were hard to beat in a Chevy block engine. So, that's what I stuck with.

But like certain other topics in this forum, it's sure to fire up the debate again. Hopefully not as long and heated as the Mega Oil Thread!
LOL :D

My 5.0L Mercruiser came from the factory with AC plugs. Ran great all season.

Either NGK's or AC MR 43LTS (Factory equipped) for that motor. Check the mercruiser carb cover and it will list the plugs as well as the gap on it. Good luck.

Re: Cross Reference Plugs

OK,

Just got back from auto zone. I wanted to pick up 2 sets of ngk plugs for my '87 3.0 I/o. I searched this forum and found two numbers, BPR6FS and BR6FS. I gave the guy both numbers with no luck, he said they have nothing like that, but they do carry ngk! Any suggustions? The worst part is the ngk factory is only 10 miles from my home!!! Thanks, Mike

Re: Cross Reference Plugs

I'll give it another shot on monday! The NGK plant is only 3 miles past autozone, maybe i'll head to them if no one else can find em! Thanks Trog, and keep yer chin up, you've been more help to me than anyone else. Most everyone else just said, "buy a manual." Well I have a manual, just need guidance, and you gave it to me. Thanks, Mike

Re: Cross Reference Plugs

I have been running Bosch Platinum in most of my engines for years and have never experienced a problem. In one case they solved a problem. I had a 5.7 Chevy that would always foul the # 8 plug (AC) switched to Bosch and it never fouled again.
