I posted this on another boating site where we got into a discussion of boating shoes!
Thought it would be of interest here too.
I actually have really liked Crocs over the past 5 years while boating. Nothing is more comfortable and dries out quicker after I launch or retrieve my rig. I liked the closed toe to protect from rocks while walking in the water too.

But . . no question anyone wearing Crocs looks Goofy and Dorky.

These new style boat shoes by Crocs solved my problem of years of dealing with many pairs of Dock siders that get smelly ratty after you keep getting them wet. And their crummy rawhide laces that never stay tied. These laces on the Croc boat shoes are cord, yet they look like rawhide.

I just picked up these Croc boat shoes today at Dicks for $49.95. Model: Cove Sport, Color: Espresso.

They have the Crocs sole and those wide air vents, soft water resistant leather uppers. And soft material inside against your feet.

They come in 4 colors. I like the black ones too, But the Espresso (brown) ones look a little classier for me. The Blue and White ones are sharp looking (if you're a sailor).

Click in the link below and on top right and you can click to see the 4 different colors they come in.

What matter what it "looks like"? Who really cares? If I like them that is ALL that matters.

I thought the original Crocks looked silly on a man and kinda like clownshoes or Swedish clogs and that i would never wear them.....................then I tired a pair and after getting used to them I really like them. Mine have a strap that can hold the heel or fold over the top for a true slip on. They are cheap, durable, great around the house ( don't have to bend over to put on shoes ) and on the boat and U can washum w a hose. Those new ones look like they would be even better on the boat for traction and stability while moving around.

Funny, I was of a similar mind until my wife came home with some regular crocs but the off brand a few years back. I mean it's either flip flops of which I've owned dozens of pairs over the years and each no matter the design ultimately broke. Crocs on the other hand never fall apart other than the heal strap which I don't need. End of the day if you judge me by the crocs on my feet, that your decision. The caring how people perceive me ship sailed a long time ago.

Ya, I bought another pair a few weeks ago of the regular ones in Black to replace two other pairs that the soles wore out.
Tip: watch the wear on the soles. I get about 2 seasons out of a pair. Save the old ones for around the house or walking around the town. I find I can walk foreever becasue of the cushioning sole and the comfort. I'm amazed as even though the soles wear out I have never had a strap break or anything crack. I can't say that about the Vann's I used to wear. The broke way too soon.

Two weeks ago I was launching and as I was walking over to the docked boat I stopped at the end of the ramp to clear a few twigs for other to use the launch and stepped on the algae at the edge and slipped on my ***. Came out with 3 bleeding chafes on knee and elbows.

So check your soles and replace if the tread has worn smooth. Croc is out of Colorado but they make them in Mexico and China. The soles wear quickly if you use them on the streets too much. Save your good ones with good treads for boating. I'm surprised to see they are still in business. In 2008 their stock dropped to .79 cents a share. Recovered some in 2010 and then got hammered again in 2011 on falling sales.

Also, I don't usually use the strap for ease of getting them on and oiff on the boat. But use the strap around back of your foot when getting them wet. They stay on real nice when retrieving boat at ramp. If you don''t use the strap and get them wet you can slip out very easily.
I've always liked Crocs as the protect your toes from rocks when walking in the water.

Ya we look Goofy, but the black or dark blue are not bad. I laugh when I see guys weraing the bright red, orange, purple or green ones.
You won't see guys with those colors at Chic-Fil-A anymore . . .

I used to use Teva's for boating but they always took a long time to dry out, were a pain to fasten and I tend to look like Jesus when I wear sandals.

I just wear my keen sandals. I double clutched before dropping $95 on a pair of sandals, but these things are my second feet in the summer. I bought them 5 years ago and do everything in them. I am going buy a new pair next yearrimarily because they are starting to look a little aged. But they are awesome summer footwear.

But those are actually pretty cool shoes.

My crocks are RED, LARGE (size15), and not so comfy. But I call them my MICKEY MOUSE SHOES. Wear them only to run outside or bbq in so no big deal.

I love my Topsiders, but I'd never wear them in the water. Those newfangled Crocs look like a great idea!
