Below is a cut&paste of an email from a colleague in San Antonio (how 'bout those Spurs?), she asked that it be distributed widely. It was accompanied by 8 or 10 photos which she took, I don't have time right now to post 'em.

Don't know whether you heard about this but Denzel Washington and his family visited the troups at Brook Army Medical Center, in San Antonio,Texas (BAMC) the other day. This is where soldiers that have been evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the States, especially burn victims. They have buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher House is a hotel where soldiers' families can stay, for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying in the hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these houses on base but as you can imagine, they are almost completely filled most of the time.

While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build. He took his check book out and wrote a check for the full amount right there on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear this story and want to get the word out to the American public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it.

The question I have is why does Alec Baldwin, Madonna, Sean Penn and other Hollywood types make front page news with their anti-everything America crap and this doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of any newspaper except the base newspaper in San Antonio. A true American and friend to all in uniform!
The liberal news media cannot find it in them selves to print anything positive about the military or anyone who supports the military. They lost Nam, not the troops and now they are working on Iraq at the expence of young Americans lives, at best the reporters are biased and at lest scumbags--Bob

Denzel Washington visited Brooke Army Medical Center and made a substantial donation to the Fisher House Foundation: True.

I'll settle for that much being true. :)

It still begs the question, why can't we hear about positive things like this through the "mainstream" media?

Simple.. The nice little positive story don't $sell$...

Mainstream media wants/needs to ShOcK  mainstream America to get the ratings.. I kinda liken it to the "car wreck mentality".. They gotta get you to stop and look, or "tune in"..

The TV network, newspaper, and/or magazine that has the highest viewer ratings and/or readership, sells the most commercials and advertisment, for the most amount of $$$$$$$$$....

It's all about the money, boys....

(edit) shame on me for no kudos to Denzel Washington..
The politicians (Johnson and McNamara specifically) lost the war in Vietnam.
