I saw a boat trailer in a movie scene, forget the movie. It was parked at the fuel pumps, probably mid 80's and there was a camper pulling this thing with a speedboat on the bottom, and two jet skis on top. It used a cable lifting system and was really kinda cool. Well, I seem to have a horrible delemma of which boat to take camping for a couple weeks, and this would solve that minor problem, plus it would be easy enough to build safely with my little 18 footer on the bottom and the one Sea-Doo on top, maybe a two axle monster.
Have any of you ever seen something like this? It's just been an idea running through my head and thought I would let it out to play.

Re: Crazy Trailer Idea

If you look around online, I know this has been done. There is a company that makes custom trailers that can do anything. Their coolest one allowed you to tilt the skis so you could back a double trailer with the skis into a toy hauler RV.

Edit: Here is another option, though I am not sure how you would keep the tongue weight high enough to keep it from swaying.

Click on trailers, and then go to boat-pwc trailer.

This is not the one I was thinking of though.

It's good to know I'm not the only crazy one. Imagine my relief! I think I will spend some lead and paper time and see if my math will work on a top deck for one ski that levers from the back up. A wider sub frame for the boat is all it would take to have a frame that lifts up and forward and acted like a guide-on once the ski level was up.
I am a big fan of stout stuff like the Bear trailers are made. Thanks guys!

Re: Crazy Trailer Idea

remember you need a tow vehicle that will handle the load. and base trailer to handle the load, and sway from the height.

Re: Crazy Trailer Idea

Towing's not a problem. The boats and trailer can't weigh much more than a couple fat horses. I have two trucks, a 07 Tundra 5.7L and a 90 chevy full size truck w a 5.7L (and a 49 gmc one-ton dually I'm restoring that has the biggest inline 6cyl there is). The boat is only 18' and the sea doo is only 800 pounds. Towing or stopping is not an issue as long as I build the trailer a little wider and keep the doo as low as I can safely. The biggest issue is actually commiting and more importantly finishing the trailer. I tend to have a lot of projects going at once.

Re: Crazy Trailer Idea

Another thought I had is get a flatbed big enough, and it could be used for so much more than the boats.

go down to the race track, and look around the pits, you will always see one just starting out in the busniess useing a flatbed single car hauler, with an overhead tire rack on front, over the hood. seen those types of trailers for sale on ocassion, wouldnt be that hard to modify...

Re: Crazy Trailer Idea

Thanks woosterken, that was what I was looking for. It looks like a lot of work. I am sure it will work out. right now I am packing up and moving due to being laid off or layed off, however you spell it. Bummer. I am officially another casualty to the economy.
It will remain on the drawing board for a while.

I sort of know somebody who does the double decker boat/pwc thing. If you have any questions let me know and I can get you in contact with him.

It appears that the rack mounts on the bedrails of the truck, then you could tow your normal trailer. Might keep some of the weight over the axle instead of putting it all on the trailer tongue.

Re: Crazy Trailer Idea

My dad has a built rite (I think its a built rite anyway) like that. His is for hauling his boat on top and his Jeep Cherokee on bottom behind his diesel motorhome. He only used it a handful of times, and health problems have prevented him from using it. It is actually more complicated than it looks with safety locks, pins, hydraulic/cable lift system, etc. It could easily be modified for 2 boats rather than a car and a boat. My dad would most likely be willing to sell it since he probably won't be using it anymore. It is actually in my back yard as I am storing it for him and getting ready to sell his boat for him. PM me if at all interested and I could take some pictures of it.
