Re: Crayfish

It is a spiny lobster otherwise known as longuester. Many folks call the m crawfish especially in Fla so i am surprised you have not heard that Derwood. These have no claws unlikt thier cousins from much farther north but taste as good. Freshwater crawdads are not nearly as good fare although I will take them. In fact when we hit the mountians I know a clear cool water pond that is chock full of them and they are about the best I have ever eaten. I am gonna have to collect me a mess of them even though I am not 100% sure how legal it is to do so.

Re: Crayfish

Over here Crayfish is the name. They don't have the big Lobster like claws you American folk are used to.
We were exceptionally lucky as at this time of year most females are in berry (having eggs on their belly) and it's illegal to keep them. This one was obviouslly not.
Ross

Re: Crayfish

He,He,He....Sorry peter.

Most of the pepole that go diveing for the lobster(crayfish) round here take one look at the shade tree special and hit the throttle.

I guess my little boat does not impress them and their 150,000$ boat so much as to give me a second thought (I think their first thought is how fast they can swamp me)

Needless to say we don't talk much....the world has alot of snooty pepole in it.....but there is alot of great pepole too!

Those pepole know of the curse and keep their distance till we are on land.

Crawdads have a kinda dirt taste to them....but i realy don't mind it. In fact i kinda like em in a marinara sause with other seafoods. I have a BIG one in my fresh water fish tank. He cleans up the bass dropings and dead minnows (fishfood).

Correctedwood.

Re: Crayfish

Ebb, there was a time we'd put cray pots out but at the moment there's a few of those *******s about that think it funny to empty the pot then take it with them.
Pots aren't cheap and I don't use them enough to warrent buying a couple at a time.
It was 40m + depth as well so although diving would be possible the water isn't the clearest at present following all the rains of late.
Never mind, there's still the old stocking full of fish heads, that has never let me down yet. It's also good for maray eels.
Ross
