Re: Crappie Fishing/Best Method?
Hi mth54. There's no sure way to catch crappie, but my wife and I have good days and bad days when fishing for crappie. It's never the same each day. We use 'crappie jigs', or worms (mini crawlers). We like to fish under the docks at the Port of Sacramento. We do good when the tide's coming in sometimes. If you can find them, they are fun to catch, especially the 3+ pounders.

Sometimes we fish with bobbers and other times it's tight lined. My wife likes to fish tight lined cause she feels the fish when they strike. I've found that black/chartreuse is a good color. My wife will try anything once and if she finds something they like, then I'll change up. Crappie will bite just about anything, just depends on what they want. We have not used minnows for years, since we get great action on the artificial bait. We use triple ripple, squirmin squirts, crappie grubs, etc. Check out the web site for 'Pro Bass Shops' we get a lot of our supplies from the.

We like to fish where there is brush or logs, etc., in the water. That holds the fish. A lot of people move them out of the way - bad idea, as that will scar the fish away. Just drop your jig right down in the middle of what ever is in the water and jiggle it a little. If you don't get a hit, move it. If you fish tight lined, try letting the jig (or bait), fall to the bottom and then reel up slow, stop and bounce you jug a little and let sit for a second or two. If nothing hits it, reel up a little more and do the same thing. Do this until you reach the top, and if nothing, throw somewhere else.

Another way is to throw your jig out and just start reeling very slow, and flicking a little. Practice makes perfect!
You'll learn control the more you do it. The trick is to real in slow.

Good luck!
