Crankshaft twisted?

I have a Suzuki DT 65 (-86). The problem has been bad idle and no power at low rpms.

Now i found out that there are 2-3 cogs difference between cylinder 2 and 3 (counting on the flywheel). The Flywheel also looks warped. It goes up and down 2-3 mm when measuring on the top of the engine.

Do anyone know how this can happen and what can I do? Is it any idea to repair? It looks like the crankshaft is divided into three parts. How are they connected?

Re: Crankshaft twisted?

The crank pieces are pressed together using pins, the pins are the enter bearing surface. If the block is good and the crank only shifted, it can be religned, and if the pins are not tight enough, sometimes you can spot weld the pins.

Re: Crankshaft twisted?

The "warped" flywheel is that a bad sign? I have also found small metal pieces on one of the reed valves. Very small thin pieces. I spoke with one repairman and he belived the crankshaft must be exchanged and most likely one or more bearings.

The latter I agree on (due to the metal pieces) but is there any hope that the crankshaft can be ok (800 Euro...)?

Apart from the money its so sad since the engine works pretty well on middle/high speed.

The only way you will know is to take take the engine apart. If the metal is from the top or bottom cylinder, 3 cylinder right and the edges of the metal chips are smered or rolled. The chips may be from the upper and lower main bearing cage.
