Crankshaft bearing cage gasket question

Don't flame me, I'm just asking...

Model: 202HD
S/N: 2143
Year: 1972

I notice some fuel/oil leaking from the top of my motor. I ordered a new upper crankshaft seal. After getting it all apart (easy) I noticed there was a paper gasket in there. I missed this on the parts diagram when I ordered my parts, but upon a second look it's there.

I'd like to get my motor back together as soon as possible, but not at the expense of doing shoddy work. Can I safely use Permetex for a gasket here (which type?) or should I go ahead and order the gasket?

I think Permatex gets a bad reputation many times because it's hard to remove the part afterward. Is there ever a good time to use Permatex?

Auto parts stores have gasket materal, which you can make your own(paper-type) gaskets from, if you want to go that route. Take a sample of the old one if you still have it.Permatex is good to use with a gasket but not by it's self.
Good luck

Re: Crankshaft bearing cage gasket question

Thanks. I went ahead and ordered a gasket for it. If it doesn't get here by Friday (fishin Saturday!) I'll make one out of gasket material from the autoparts store.
