Cranks but won't turn over

My boat cranks but won't start. I have read many forums and can't figure out the problem. The safety lanyard was broke so i took it off the ignition switch. Where should I start? It seems to be getting gas.

is the switch the lanyard was attached to in the "run" position??

did you connect the wires that were attached to the switch??

i don't think it had any wires attached to it just a round thing that would look like it would flip the key to off position if the lanyard was suddenly removed.

Check and see if you have spark at plugs

There are wires connected BEHIND the Kill switch. They are "purple". Push on connectors.

The kill switch is on the ignition switch. so is there a purple wire connected?

so this ignition switch has a kill switch built into it, yes??

i am guessing the kill switch portion is spring activated and the lanyard was attached to some sort of clip that held the kill switch portion "up", and when you removed it the switch fell "down" into the off position??

it sound like you may just need a new ignition switch, if you jumper the wires going into the switch, red/pur to purple, do the guages move??

red/pur to yel/red turn the enigne over??

the ignition switch still works. when i turn it to the on position, the dash lights up. When i turn it to the run position, it cranks but nothing else. how do i test for spark?

What kind of engine is this? Got a serial number?

how do i test for spark?

spark tester in between coil tower and good ground

crank engine with key and look for spark at the tester

no spark = time to troubleshoot the ignition system from the key to the coil

spark = time to troubleshoot the fuel system
