Dropping in the crank and checking the end play. According to my shop manual for my 1986 Mariner 4 cyl. 75 HP #A199493 the end play should be between .004-.012. It is just under .012, so that will do but it says iit should be shimed as equally at he end as possible. From new, the motor has never been apart. I am only using the parts I took off, not including pistons, bearings, gaskets, ect. I didn't cut the crank or anything, just polished it. The lower end cap had no shims and the upper has 2. The shims are as they came off when I tore it apart and their bolt pattern will only allow them to fit on one cap or the other and are not interchangable. It was factory with 2 shims at one enad and none at the other and the play iswith-in tolerances. What do I do? Put it together as it came? Locate
