I have to reseal the crankcase of a 1986 2 cylinder 50 horse Evinrude. The OMC service manual calls for gel seal 2 and Dhadly in a 2001 thread mentions that is has to be an anaerobic sealant called Loctite Gasket Eliminator. The only Anaerobic sealant i could find so far is automotive grade Anaerobic gasket maker (Napa Permatex)Item 51813.Is this the right stuff or should I go online and get Gasket Eliminator instead of Gasket Maker? <br />As always, thank you for your opinion and advice.

Re: crank case sealant

I use Loctite 518 myself....I have no experience with Permatex Loctite Gasket Eliminator. I did notice that the Loctite product seals gaps to .050, while the Permatex product seals gaps to .015.

Re: crank case sealant

I do believe they are the same product. I thought that Permatex bought out Loctite and the new product number was 51813. Just what I heard and Loctite 518 can't be found around my home town anymore.
