I just picked up a 1996 Baja Blast with a sport jet 120. It cranks just fine but has no spark at the plugs and I am not finding much info on this boat or motor. Any help would be great. I do have tools and meters.

You have an outboard powerhead mounted on top of a jet drive unit. A mod will get this moved for you to the correct area.

Sounds like a bad stator but it could be a variety of things starting with is there electrical power at the stator? Start with a compression check. That is always job #1, then buy yourself a manual. That will have values, test criteria etc. to answer your questions. :)

Compression is good. I have not had time to start checking the wiring yet. Thanks for the input so far!

Re: Crank but no fire at plugs

You need some tools to DIY this, your going to need...
1. A decent quality digital multimeter
2. A DVA adaptor for the meter
3. A couple of adjustable gap spark boards
4. A remote starter button.
5. The service manual
6. An understanding of electricity and how to work with it. Outboard ingition systems are all high voltage, and you can really light yourself up if your not confident when working with electricity.

If you have the tools and have the confidence to troubleshoot the system we can all help you do it. But if you don't have the tools or the knowledge there's not much that can be done.

Re: Crank but no fire at plugs

I am a HVAC tech so I have the meters and understand electricity. I found one of the yellow wires going to the stator that had been pinched and corroded thru and after splicing it together I had spark for a short time. I am pretty sure I have a bad ground someplace. Every time I move the plate that the coils are on I get a spark when it touches the motor. So I hope that once I get it grounded good I will have spark again. I HOPE!!!

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,...
What you've got is much more of a Jet-ski, rather than I/O powered boat...
You'll get much Better info from either the Jet-Ski Forum, or the manufacturer of the powerhead's Outboard Forum...

Good Luck....
