Re: cracked block

Some guys swear by JB Weld... My place of work uses a two part epoxy compound. We repair leaking fuel tanks...cracked blocks etc...the stuff works great!

There are a lot of good products on the market...but all require one similar thing. The area you wish to patch has to be clean, clean, clean.

Go for it...that ol' Chevy has lot's of life left in her...

Walt

Re: cracked block

if you use the boat infrequently, and other freinds are there to pick u up and tow you back, then put JB weld in the crack and hope for the best. Otherwise, to do a quality repair, buy a new engine. small block chevys are the least expensive on the market and you'll have piece of mind knowing after going out on the lake or ocean, you have good equipment that will get you back home when your done. - think about what you already spent, throwing good money after bad. Remember, you can't polish a turd!

Stan is right. but so is Walt. Guess what I.m trying to say is it depends on your wallet.. In 1967, I had an austin healey that had a rod knocking, I did't have any money so I took a pie tin and cut a piece of it to fit behind the bearing and got another 40,000 thousand miles out of it......just depends.......are you lucky?? jb weld is good stuff..

Re: cracked block

It's hard to walk to the next gas station in a boat. You have to pull the motor and he's right you can pick up a 283 or 305 at fairly cheap. I just rebuilt mine new for $750 Canadian. It's pretty cheap peace of mind

Re: cracked block

if your crack is accesable metal stiching is a qaulity repair.they use this system to repair large engines,ship-loco etc.maybe hard to find someone with these skills locally.
