Re: cracked block

John,
Honestly it should I think. My friend is having one done right now. His is the exact same as yours, year and everything. His hole was above piston 1 on the left top side. He has had it welded and they were only able to weld it from the outside, they couldn't get the welder into the inside, even with the block completely apart and pistons removed. He does have to replace 2 pistons for sure though.

I would go for it. I had another person tell us to even put JB weld on it, before we tore into it and found out how bad his was. We probably would have given that a shot otherwise, so I am sure the welding should work for you.

Good luck.

We should be putting it all back together sometime next week or the week after, so if you have any questions, I have just began to rebuild one completely.

One thing about that engine. I couldn't figure out how to get the carbs off without removing the flywheel, then the starter, then the top carb, then the middle carb, and then the bottom carb. This seemed to be a real pain to me.

Thanks,
Bryan Cox

Re: cracked block

I would TIG IT !! It may last another 20years. Ive seen blocks stiched together before.Used for large engines.Proces of drilling lots of holes and pins which interlock.Bit more complicated then that but you get the idea.Has to be done by a pro tho. No heat involved.
