Cowling removal

Have old 35 Merc. outboard New to boating cant even get the cowling off to change oil? Help pls, thanks.

Most outboards are 2 cycle motors. There is no engine oil to change. They will run a 50::1 Gasoline to oil premix.

There should be a knob in the center of the cowling. Push and turn it 90* and then gently pull it out. The front part of the cowl will then come off. Now you will have two flip latches ad the mid cowl will come off.
