Cowl gasket material...?

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good substitute material to use for a cowl gasket on a '66 20 hp. The motor runs great, but it's a bit loud because the cowl rattles around. I have half of the original gasket, but I'm missing the other half. As a result, the cowl doesn't quite seal evenly. Is there a weather stripping/rubber gasket material of some sort that could be used? Maybe something that comes on a spool, or something? Thanks.

I recall someone using either 1/4 or 3/8 fuel line...he split it lengthwise and glued it...made a "device" to pull the fuel line through by wedging a utility blade between 2 blocks of wood set for the width of the line and then pulling the fuel line through..seemed to work and with the price of seal material it looked like a viable option

Thanks y'all. I found the factory gasket at NYmarine for like $20, but I don't think I want, or need it that bad. I'm gonna give losnbama's trick a try and see how it goes. Thanks again.

Btw bama, did you ever get you 60-something 18/20 hp issues figured out?

well kfa4303 i have to mod either the shift lock more or mod the stop plate. either way its only a 1/16" of clearing the stop. btw use a good quality hose. one that doesnt get stiff in cold weather and a dab of silicone in the corners to hold its shape.

I use peices of 3/8 fuel line cut on one side, it keeps my 68 18hp fastwin quiet.
