Covered Slip - cover boat also?

Hi all,
Long time lurker here. Many thanks for answers to many questions.

We have a 22' Crest on Dale Hollow Lake in East Tennessee. We keep it in a covered slip, and keep the custom cover on it as well. It is a well made snap on cover with vents at the top of the 4 poles. Last summer we had a lot of mold & mildew build up on the seats. Just spent 3 days cleaning and scrubbing to get it all off. (LA's Awesome and Mean Green then 303..different subject, will post if anyone is interested)

We see other boats in the slips both covered and uncovered. We don't cover the boat if it's wet, but there's always humidity. We're thinking we may be making the problem worse by using the snap on cover, and are wondering if we should just leave it uncovered all the time to help reduce the mold. Anyone have ideas or experience with this?

Thanks, Bob

I would keep covering it as long as it is relatively dry inside when you put it up, or I wasn't going to use it the next day any way. Can you try cracking open the play pen doors just a little to let more air in to circulate around. Use a small wedge to keep the opened just slightly. That way you will still have it covered and away from blowing debris or pollen but increase the air flow. Either that or get a small fan inside to move the air around. They make boat specific ones for that very reason.

We keep ours in a covered slip and when the Yellow pollen is done dropping we uncover it and don't cover it until fall winterizing. I put 303 on the seats and after 3 seasons the boat still look new.
We did the same with our other toon that we traded in on this one and the dealer said that we had an A+ toon. I would highly recommend leaving it uncovered, otherwise why waste the money on covered storage.

we kept ours uncovered. If you have electricity try putting a small oscillating fan in. I've never tried it, always thought it should work.

Bob, as long as the sun is not directly on it, I'd leave it uncovered and keep liberal amounts of the 303 protectant on the seats. Best to let it breathe. Good luck !!!

I have to agree. If it's in a covered slip I'd leave it open also. Even if it gets some dirt blown in it can be cleaned. The Owl works for me to keep the birds away.

We have a covered slip for our boat but I still put the cover on just to keep the spider poop off the seats. I don't snap the cover down all the way and I don't use the support poles. Since our rails are lifted, we get plenty of breeze under the cover to prevent any mold. I just got tired of always cleaning the spider poop when we left the cover off.
