I know that the Midget engine is a common inboard engine and that it is still used today and that some parts are still available.
Anyway I have a Coventry Victor SS8 (super speed 8hp) outboard, I have never seen anything like it before and I would say it?s a 1950s motor.
At the moment it has been stripped down, as the engine has not moved for over 30 years and is in need of a little TLC, so any information on this outboard if any would be much appreciated.

Re: Coventry Victor Midget Engine outboard

Yikes, an old British outboard from the 40s or 50s. I did a Google search for "coventry midget outboard" (leave off the quotes) and found several UK pages referencing it, including one that mentions a service manual being available.

Mostly, this site is about USA outboards, so it's probably not the best for your vintage Coventry outboard. Coventry, famous for the Coventry Climax auto engines from the 60s, also made a 30 hp diesel outboard, of all things.

UK sites are going to be your best source, I'm sure.

Re: Coventry Victor Midget Engine outboard

I did think that it would be a bit of a long shot, but it?s just one of the old outboards that you don?t see every day, if at all.
I do have the midget parts book and user manual and the Victor super speed outboard parts book and manual, plus the carb manual, but it?s the age of the thing and if anyone has ever come across this type of outboard before, the old outboard book has a little info but other than that and looking on the net it don't seem to exist.
But Thanks anyway.

I am glad you shared it! It is always fun to see something unique like that one. Someday I hope to add an old Seagull to my collection. The simplicity and reliability are interesting to me...

Thanks!

Yes you'r right it?s a very simple engine, the Seagull was one of those outboards that was designed and built and did not have any major change to it over the years because it was simple and it worked.
I have an FVP 1953 and she starts second pull every time.

Wizard! A crank-starting outboard motor! It sounds wonderful. You have cleaned it up wonderfully, and it's great to hear it run.

An oil-pressure guage, as well. I'm deeply envious of your outboard!

Well, it's beautiful, in the same way my old Velocette motorcycle was. If I had such a thing, I believe I'd have to find a nice old wooden boat to fish from, just so I could use it.

There's just something about old British technology that makes me smile broadly.
