I'm new to this site so thank you for any help or advise. I have a 1995 Four Winns. There was a burnt rubber smell and The coupler broke the day I bought it 2 years ago. Took it to a shop, cost $900 to fix. Took it out 1 time and burnt rubber smell, and smoke, and it broke again. Back to same shop...they hadn't aligned it properly..replaced it again no charge. Since then I've had the boat out about 25 times. I've smelled burning rubber 2 or 3 times..but it goes away and runs fine. Yesterday, was pulling a tube and when I stopped there was that smell and smoke in the engine comp. Smoke went away after a minute...and all ran fine again. I'm sure its the coupler again but what is causing that smoke? it runs fine..but I'm worried the coupler is now weak or damaged even though it runs good still? What should I do at this point? Thank you for any help. John

Next time you smell rubber burning, go back to the engine and see what's hot. Carefully touch the couple, and even the exhaust hoses.
Until you find what is causing the smell, there is no way to tell you how to fix it.

Well, it's NOT the coupler.....It's usually all over in SECONDS if it's the coupler.

If you have burning rubber and you're still going, it's frequently related to not enough cooling water flow through the exhaust system or a rubber part touching something hot.

That can be due to blockage anywhere in the cooling water system from the water pickup to the exhaust manifolds & risers, or a failed/defective or failing raw water pump.
