Coupler grease?

I have a Shorelandr tandem axle trailer. The coupler has a surge brake system, and I am wondering what, if any, grease I should use on this hitch?

I'm planning on driving some 800 miles with it next summer. Thanks for any info.

I use white lithium, only because I have some and I use it other places, like the outboard.

Wheel bearing grease will work too.

Any waterproof grease should do the trick, but that is only my opinion.

Re: Coupler grease?

If you go to a trailer sales place you can get a moly grease that is especially made for couplers; in particular load equalizing hitches where there is a lot of pressure on the ball and hitch. Just takes a little and it stays put.

Otherwise, as others said, just any old grease....but that's such a mess. You get the stuff all over you.

I know that they make plastic covers for the balls when not in use and that helps.....if you can keep up with what you did with it between uses. :%

You dont need much grease, just a "smattering" will do the trick!!

I've got over 30,000 miles on my trailer and never use grease on the coupler.
