OK guys and gals' Need a engine coupler for a 1988 ford 460 OMC cobra outdrive. Or a way to somehow adapt a usable coupler (bigblock) to exsisting flywheel. I will have to completly repower/outdrive to get around coupler issue... Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Thanks Paul (pbkboater)

Last I heard, those couplers weren't being made anymore. Fits well with the exhaust risers and manifolds you can't get either.

Try Ken at southwest Marine, 239 332 2166 last i talked to him he had a few on the shelf, AND knew where a bunch more were hiding. Brand new too!
but the Don is right, 460's are a pain in the but! they make 454 adapters for the 460's though..

Re: coupler ford 460

If the cobra and bravo drives have similiar input shafts i dont see why a different coupler could not be installed on the flywheel.maybe one from an inboard application.as long as the length and spline are the same .maybe a bravo coupler re-drilled to the flywheel or a adaptor ring machined

Re: coupler ford 460

I had my Bravo III and King Cobra side by side and it does indeed appear that one could redrill the 460 flywheel and bolt a Bravo coupler to it.

It also appears that you could adapt a Bravo yoke to the King Cobra drive. (the U-joints appear to be the same) You may have to put the yoke in a lathe and shorten it a bit. I think the Bravo yoke was a little longer.

There may be some 460 couplers still out there. There's usually a lot of NEW-OLD stock stuff sitting around on shelves but they are getting scarce. If you find one and they have 2, BUY TWO!

Cheers,

Rick

Hey Rick, Ya I found that the 454 coupler will do just have to drill (machine) new bolt pattern for the 460 and add a centering ring. But with that said I found where I can get OMC ford 460 couplers! Just pay 600 buckaroos and
I'm there.... "OOOUUUUCH" They are aftermarket and they will not tell me who's the manufacturer, go figure! ( thought if u buy a product the manufacturer has to be dislosed?????)

Yeah......well,

This is what happens when people claim to have the "only one".......they get to name the price!!!

I did the obvious to avoid that!!

Cheers,

Rick
