I seem to remember from marine tech school, that counter rotating, Yamaha lower units, were stamped with an L, just above the anticavitation plate, in the rear.

Please, varify this for me.

I was working with someone, that just recieved 2 new LF 250's. They are both stamped with this L. I haven't worked with Yamaha's in a few years, and, this other fella was just hired to mount them on a World Cat, for the mechanic, that wasn't there.

One is supposed to be right hand rotation, and the other, counter rotating.

Thanks,

Bob

the horses mouth is also full of hay, which eventually turns into horses sheet.
the L will be in 1 of 2 places.
either stamped on the case just above the cavitation plate aft or under the trim tab pocket with the case shimming correction information.
just because the ENGINE model says L or not, doesnt mean what case is currently installed.
last laugh at what PROP you need will be determined by the case markings.

Re: Counter Rotating, Designation on Yamaha

Thanks fellas,

I got confirmation on that L stamp, from several other folks also. My first suspicion was the LF in the model number

When the guy hanging these engines called back to the source of these engines, and talked to the "Salesman", he was asked for the serial numbers. I had my doubts about wether that salesman knew what he was talking about also, when he didn't ask for the model numbers.

Now, they're sending a tech in to make them right. Not only were they both counter rotating, but two 25" engines were ordered, and two 30" engines were sent.

Beware of engines coming out of a distributor from Nashville. The "Salesman" swears that two 30" engines were ordered. He has no explanation why two counter rotating engines were sent.

I'm thinking, this isn't the first time this has happened, with these Nashville folks.
